Dental Implants in Garland, TX
Dental implants are the most natural-feeling way to replace a missing tooth. An implant is a small titanium post placed in the jawbone that acts like a new tooth root. Once it heals, it supports a custom crown, bridge or denture that looks, feels and chews like your own teeth. At Care N Cure Dental in Garland, TX, Dr. Faisal Rehman, D.M.D., plans and places dental implants for patients from Garland, Murphy, Mesquite and Dallas.
Why choose a dental implant?
Unlike a bridge, an implant does not rely on the teeth next to the gap, so healthy teeth do not need to be reshaped. Implants also help preserve the jawbone, which naturally shrinks after a tooth is lost. Patients often choose implants because they:
- Look and feel like natural teeth
- Let you bite and chew with confidence
- Do not slip like a loose denture
- Help protect the jawbone and the shape of your face
- Can last for many years with good home care and regular checkups
Who is a good candidate for dental implants?
Most adults who are missing one or more teeth can be considered for implants. A good candidate has healthy gums and enough jawbone to support the implant. If bone has been lost, Dr. Rehman has advanced training in guided bone regeneration (bone grafting) and soft tissue grafting, which can rebuild the area so an implant can be placed. Smoking, uncontrolled diabetes and some medications can affect healing, so we review your health history at your consultation.
What to expect: the dental implant process
- Consultation and planning. We examine your mouth, take x-rays and talk about your goals and options.
- Preparing the site. If a damaged tooth needs to come out or bone needs to be rebuilt, this is done first.
- Implant placement. The implant post is placed in the jawbone. Local anesthesia keeps you comfortable, and nitrous oxide (laughing gas) or minimal sedation is available for anxious patients.
- Healing. Over the following months, the implant bonds with the bone.
- Your new tooth. A custom crown, bridge or implant-supported denture is attached to complete your smile.
Implant options for one tooth, several teeth or a full arch
A single implant with a crown replaces one missing tooth. An implant-supported bridge can replace several teeth in a row, and implant-retained dentures snap onto implants for a much more secure fit than a traditional denture. We will recommend the option that fits your mouth, your health and your budget.
Dental implant FAQs
Do dental implants hurt?
The area is numbed during placement, so most patients feel pressure rather than pain. Mild soreness for a few days afterward is common and is usually managed with over-the-counter pain relievers. Sedation is available if you feel nervous.
How long do dental implants last?
With good brushing, flossing and regular dental visits, implants can last for many years and often for decades. The crown on top may eventually need to be replaced due to normal wear.
Does insurance cover dental implants?
Coverage depends on your plan. Many PPO plans pay for part of the treatment. We will check your benefits for you, and financing through CareCredit is available.
How long does the whole process take?
Most implant treatment takes a few months from placement to the final tooth, because the implant needs time to bond with the bone. If bone grafting is needed first, the timeline is longer. We will give you a personal timeline at your consultation.
